Hallo,
Has someone sucessfully installed Parrot Sphinx on WSL (Windows Subsystem for Linux) and XMing?
I’ve done the installation but when starting Sphinx i get the error:
grep: /proc/sys/kernel/modprobe: No such file or directory
error: sphinx and firmwared versions do not match
Thx a lot for any advice
Hi,
As far as I know, no one tried this before. Since Sphinx heavily relies on advanced Linux features: overlay union filesystem, linux namespaces (containers), GPU rendering, wifi drivers (mac80211/hostapd)… I think its unlikely that Sphinx would just work out of the box on WSL (1). I don’t know how far Microsoft has pushed the limits with its new WSL2 though.
That being said I have honestly no idea what would it take to port Sphinx to WSL 1 or WSL2 (we are not currently working on it). This particular error you’re encountering is probably only the tip of the iceberg, sorry.

Thx for your answer.
“This particular error you’re encountering is probably only the tip of the iceberg.” I’ll think so. Would have been great if that has worked
